Artwork Chosen for Display in New York City at the NAEA Convention

A painting by first grade student, Vanessa T. has been chosen by the MA Art Education Association President, Christopher Whitehead, for inclusion in the  MAEA Youth Art Month Show which will be on display in New York City for the National Art Education Association Convention on March 1-4, 2012.

St. Ann pupil's art goes national

"A painting by St. Ann School first-grader Vanessa Torres has been chosen by Massachusetts Art Education Association President Christopher Whitehead for inclusion in the MAEA Youth Art Month Show, which will be on display in the National Art Education Association Convention. That event will run March 1 to 4, at the Hilton Hotel in New York City.  The convention focuses on the idea that educators educate better when they collaboratively explore what it means to be teachers and learners with one focal point: the power of visual arts education to fulfill human potential."

Materials and Recycled Supplies We Need in the Art Loft

Here is a list of items we could use in the Art Loft:

old wallpaper books/samples
paper towel and bathroom tissue tubes
yogurt, pre-made frosting or margarine containers
round plastic lids, bottle caps, any size, any color
pipe cleaners
ribbon
feathers
sponges
tissues
spray cleaner
cardboard
matte board scraps
plastic and cardboard egg cartons
wood bits or small wood scraps
bubble wrap
magazines with colorful photos
old art calendars/postcards
felt scraps
baby wipes
paper plates

First Grade Hearts after Jim Dine

Heart shapes were drawn concentrically with pencil so that they went off the edge of the
paper and then they were traced with white oil pastel.
Designs and  patterns were then drawn with white oil pastel inside each heart shape.
Then, hearts were painted with watercolors, allowed to dry and then decorated further with pastel
shades of tempera paint.
 

The Kindergarten Class Has Been Learning About Lines!

All different kinds of lines were drawn on large white paper with oil pastels.
We learned about horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines, squiggly, curvy, straight, zigzag, dotted and loopy lines.
We then painted the spaces with water color paints and noticed that the pastel lines repel the paint!
There were alot of "Oooos" and "Ahhhhs" as we painted!

Self Portraits- "Painted" with colored tissue

Self Portraits were drawn with pencil, traced with a Sharpie marker and then "painted" with colored tissue  paper and water. When dry, the tissue paper is removed to reveal new colors.  Skin tones and other details are then added with colored pencil, crayon or marker.

Burger Collages- Colored paper, glue, colored pencil and oil pastel
